The HCS Series shunt resistor from Stackpole (Raleigh, NC) utilizes a solid metal element that is elevated off the mounting plane. This elevated design increases the ability of the part to dissipate the heat into the ambient air and not into the PCB. The HCS2512, for example, will run typically 15 to 20 degrees C cooler than an equivalent flat chip. This cooler operation combined with the low resistance values down to 0.3 milliohm and outstanding TCR make the HCS Series ideal for a wide variety of applications where high power and low operating temperatures are critical. Markets and applications include:
- High-density power supplies.
- Motor and pump controls.
- Voltage regulators.
- Power conversion.
- Communications equipment.
- Green energy power controllers.
- Instrumentation.
- Robotics.
