How is the MEMS industry doing?

By RFrank | May 10, 2021

It was a tough year in 2020 and now there are semiconductor shortages in 2021. So, with all that has and is going on, how is it impacting the microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) industry? MEMS technology accounts for many different types of sensors as well as actuators. To find out, Roger Grace, president of Roger Grace Associates, is asking his usual group of industry experts as well as inviting others involved in MEMS technology to provide their input for the 2020 MEMS Industry Commercialization Report Card Study.

Employing a “modified Delphi Method,” the survey uses a limited number of inputs from highly experienced interviewees to establish the final results.  Responders’ inputs will be held in strict confidence.

Initiated in 1998, the MEMS Industry Commercialization Report Card Study annually tracks the “health” of the MEMS industry using 14 critical success factors including:

  • Design for Manufacturing and Test
  • Infrastructure
  • Market Research
  • Venture Capital Attraction
  • Profitability
  • Wealth Creation

Participants are requested to provide letter grades from “A” to “F” with additional rationale (whenever possible) to the research project.

The Report Card Study results are published internationally in leading industry magazines and newsletters as well as presented at various technical conferences. For example, several presentations were featured at international conferences/webinars including MANCEF’s, COMS World 2020 in October, which is available in the “Videos” section of www.rgrace.com .

Respondents will be included in a drawing for a $100 Amazon gift card and will be provided with a copy of the final results.
