Hypertronics HyperGrip Connectors

By Design World Staff | March 5, 2007

Hypertronics Corporation developed HyperGrip, designed and manufactured specifically for the Medical Industry.  The user-configurable HyperGrip is color-coded, customer keyable, and available in sealed and shielded configurations.

Medical customers and others require keying, so that the wrong connector pair can never be mated. In previous and competing designs, this was achieved by offering a number of different bodies with different keys. HyperGrip uses a standard hexagonal insert with positional keying, providing the customer the ability to key the same connector in six individual keyed configurations. The color-code and keying provide an easily recognizable system for accurate and quick connections on medical equipment.

The sealing option on the HyperGrip offers IP67 protection when mated, to prevent electrical shorts.  The shielding feature supplies EMI/RFI protection against interference.

Unique to HyperGrip is the Front or Rear Panel Mount receptacle design.  This allows the user to mount the harness assembly from inside or outside of the case.

HyperGrip is a complete solution for customers, providing an all-in-one, user-configurable product that, according to Tom Kannally, Global Medical Industry Director for Hypertronics, “is comprised of a few basic components so customers don’t have to purchase dozens of different components which often results in excess inventory.

HyperGrip also has a cable receptacle which adds to its versatility and ease of use. The cable receptacle is particularly useful as it allows the HyperGrip connector to be ‘daisy-chained’ via a remote cable mount receptacle, rather than directly onto the panel. In the medical field, for example, this means that sensors can be kept close to the patient, while the instrument is kept clear of the sterile field.

Like every Hypertronics connector, HyperGrip also offers the unparalleled performance of the Hypertac contact technology which provides high mating cycle life, low power consumption, low insertion force, reliability under harsh conditions, and maximum contact performance.
