Over the past several weeks, Wireless Week has hosted a mini-debate over the current state of toll-free texting.
Kicking things off was Somos CEO Gina Perini, who argued there needs to be more regulation in toll-free texting in the form of a registry database. Perini said such a registry would help protect consumers from engaging with fraudulent companies and getting caught up in phishing scams.
Zipwhip CEO John Lauer, however, subsequently contended text to toll free services currently offered by his company already protect customers while simultaneously making the shift to new customer engagement technologies easier for companies. Lauer said Zipwhip uses a multistep verification process to ensure line owners are who they say they are and also works with Adaptive Mobile to identify and stop phishing scams before they reach consumers.
So who’s right? You decide.
