IDEC Time-of-Flight Sensors

By Design World Staff | January 27, 2008

Sunnyvale, CA, — IDEC launches the S80 Time-of-Flight Class 2 laser distance sensor with the ability to detect objects as small as 0.4mm. The sensor has a fast response time of 1ms housed in a rugged and compact body.

Time-of-Flight (TOF) technology is based on the measurement of the time between the emission and receipt of the laser light pulses. The amount of time the pulse takes to reach the target and return is measured and converted to a distance measurement. This ensures S80 sensors makes accurate distance measurements as far as 7 meters away, perfect for long-range applications.

The S80 sensors are user-friendly, rugged, compact and flexible. A bright laser spot emission makes it easy to set up and align the sensor as needed. An IP67 rated enclosure allows these sensors to withstand harsh environments. Each S80 sensor is equipped with two PNP or NPN outputs, a scaleable 4-20mA output and an RS485 serial interface for remote monitoring and settings.
