Roof racks on vehicles can be a hassle to attach and can also result in scratches. Today, companies are creating more flexible solutions that are cost effective and don’t require an entire process to attach a simple rack. Ultix Outdoors has created a roof rack solution using bicycle inner tubes that make it easier to support gear on top of a vehicle.
The inflatable rack solution, known as Tair roof racks, can be nicely packed away at the driver’s easiest convenience. If you’re a constant hiking guru, you can keep the rack attached to the car, but if you don’t need a permanent roof rack, it’s easy to store in your trunk.
The components for the Tair racks arrive in a mesh bag, about the size of a shoebox, and include a set of Kenda bicycle inner tubes. These tubes sit inside sealed nylon covers and sit on top of the roof of the car once they are pumped with a standard bike pump.
Once the inflatable racks lay across the top of the car, they are secured with hypalon straps, d-rings, and solid cam buckles. It takes about five minutes from start to finish to set up the Tair racks
The company says the roof racks can transport surfboards, snowboards, paddleboards, and even furniture. They also fit most typical cars such as city cars, crossovers, SUVs, and hatchbacks.
