INTEGRITY 11 Major Upgrade to the Leading RTOS

By atesmeh | January 10, 2012

Green Hills Software announces a major new release of its flagship INTEGRITY real-time operating system. INTEGRITY 11 includes performance, communication, and ease-of-use features that address the demanding requirements of next-generation sophisticated embedded systems.

“Our research has shown that INTEGRITY has been a leading hard real-time operating system in terms of market share growth over the past several years,” commented Steve Balacco, Practice Director at VDC Research Group. “INTEGRITY 11 includes an array of technological advancements that device makers will increasingly look to take advantage of, including security, reliability, performance, and usability.”

Developers take advantage of the INTEGRITY RTOS advanced architecture to create products that perform better, have absolute security, and cost less to develop than products based on other RTOSs. This release further extends the technological leadership of INTEGRITY in the market.

Major Enhancements in INTEGRITY 11

INTEGRITY 11 provides a new, highly optimized communications mechanism called GIPC (Green Hills IPC). GIPC is five times faster than Linux AF_LOCAL sockets. Native INTEGRITY, as well as Linux processes, executing in virtual machines, can take advantage of the super fast GIPC. Together with its support for POSIX APIs and higher-level middleware such as DDS and CORBA, INTEGRITY provides a wide variety of high performance communications mechanisms for developers. The INTEGRITY 11 network stack also includes support for additional RFCs and capabilities, such as ECMP (Equal Cost Multi-Path) routing.

When integrated with MULTI 6 – Green Hills Softwares integrated development environment – INTEGRITY 11 takes advantage of faster build speeds and improvements in code size and speed delivered by the Green Hills compiler. The combination of INTEGRITY 11 and MULTI 6 represents the state of the art in RTOS development tool integration, enabling developers to bring their products to market faster.

INTEGRITY 11 includes new resource management middleware, enabling developers to partition system resources across security domains while providing a flexible API for the dynamic allocation of those resources within each domain. Resource managers can be instantiated in simple groups or hierarchically.

Developers will see numerous other under-the-hood improvements for ease of use, including a streamlined distribution directory structure and simplified configuration for board support packages (BSPs) and device drivers.

“INTEGRITY has enjoyed the highest RTOS market share growth over the past decade,” said Dan ODowd, founder and chief executive officer of Green Hills Software. “This success is due to its remarkable adoption by device developers across a wide range of industries.”
