Intuitive free-form surface modeler

Alibre, Inc. and FreeDesign, Inc. announced the bundle release of Alibre Design Expert and FreeDimension. The double software package combines Alibre’s advanced parametric solid modeler with FreeDesign’s new method for 3D surface creation.

The combination of the two technologies lets experienced as well as novice designers create almost any organic shape with FreeDimension’s intuitive and easy-to-learn controls. Curved 3D surfaces from FreeDimension can be readily passed to Alibre’s solid modeling program. Surface creations may be directly combined with solid mechanical parts and assemblies, plotted as detailed 2D drawings, rendered with 3D effects, or exported to common manufacturing and document formats.

The bundle, which eases the creation of mechanical designs incorporating complex organic shapes, is suitable for marine design, mold making, jewelry, consumer products, and other items that require organic shapes, precise mechanical components, or a combination of the two.

Free Design’s free-form modeler is one of the additions in Alibre Design Expert 9.2. This program includes features that handle all aspects of product development, from conceptualization, presentation and output, to production. N-Sided Surfacing (NSS) technology for surface generation and control removes the restrictions of 4-sided surfaces prevalent with NURBS and Bezier methods.

In FreeDimension, surfaces simply flow between whatever curves are necessary to define shape, and curves are easily manipulated. Version 9.2 is compatible with Windows Vista and Adobe Acrobat PDF publishing for 3D mechanical design projects. Version 9.2 also offers expanded PDF publishing through the Adobe 3D PDF strategy.
