I/O Wiring Conversion System

By Design World Staff | March 4, 2009

MILWAUKEE, WI ‚— Rockwell Automation’s I/O wiring conversion system helps users migrate existing control platforms to the Allen Bradley ControlLogix programmable automation controller-based I/O platform. The system is part of the Rockwell Automation migration solutions program and reduces many of the costs, risks and complexities involved with PLC migration projects.

The new conversion system assists in helping manufacturers cost effectively replace PLC systems that are no longer supported by their original manufacturers with the highly flexible, multi-disciplined Rockwell Automation Integrated Architecture platform. Additionally, the conversion system helps those manufacturers looking to upgrade to the platform. An Integrated Architecture system offers performance gains such as improved productivity, lower costs, and easier access to parts and service. By preserving existing field wiring, the conversion system helps users reduce downtime, wiring time and labor costs by lessening the number of connections needed to complete the system migration.

Users can now quickly replace Modicon 800 Series I/O racks with the ControlLogix I/O system without disturbing field wiring. The swing-arm conversion system takes the existing Modicon 800 I/O swing arm and converts the field terminations to match a compatible ControlLogix I/O module.

Moreover, the ControlLogix I/O system takes no more panel room than the existing platform, allowing users to keep the same footprint. The conversion system includes a mounting/ground faceplate, Modicon 800 series swing arm, conversion modules, cover plate, and ControlLogix I/O system with interface cables.

The I/O wiring conversion system for Modicon 800 Series I/O racks is targeted for distribution in late November to early December 2008. Conversion systems for other automation suppliers‚’ PLCs will be available in the near future.
