Attendance at the MD&M West show will give you immediate, hands-on access to the newest technologies, products, equipment, and services for every aspect of medical design and development. Located at the Anaheim Convention Center, the show conference begins Monday, February 7 and concludes on Wednesday, February 9. The show occurs February 8 through 10.
Not only do you have access to thousands of suppliers, new products, and technologies, but the show offers dozens of features like the Innovation Briefs Theater with its in-depth presentations, special product focus features, live demonstrations, and networking opportunities.
The conference will once again cover industry’s most timely and critical issues for R&D, product development, design, engineering, quality, manufacturing, and regulatory issues professionals within the medical device industry need to know.
Here are a few of the innovations you can expect to see:
Fiber optic amplifiers
The BF5 Series of digital indicating type fiber optic amplifiers have a resolution of 1/10,000 and sensing speed of 20,000 times per second. They will send tiny objects moving at high speeds. You can mount up to 8 units adjacently using side connectors without mutual interference. In addition, the amplifiers have APC (Auto Power Control) circuit and four sensitivity set modes are available: Ultra Fast mode (50 µs), Fast mode (150 µs), standard mode (500 µs), long distance (4 ms). Other features include a dual display for light incident level and setting value (BF5R-D).

Rod-Type Electric Actuator
The Original Line Electric (OLE) actuators offer speeds up to 22 ips, strokes to 18 in., and thrusts to 350 lb. The modular design can be ordered with or without motors and drivers. The OLE product line is available in 1.5, 2, and 3 in. diameters with standard options including trunnion, block front, clevis, pivot, and foot mounts, reverse parallel motor mounts with rear pivot or clevis, step motors, drivers, encoders, brakes, washdown rating, female rod threads, and switches.

One-way clutches
Designed to operate on the end of a shaft, One-Way Clutch bearings (Product BHFL) feature ball bearings at both ends of the clutch to support radial loads. The clutch allows free spinning in one direction, while locking in the other direction to prevent reverse rotation. Compact and lightweight, the clutches are easy to install and their ball bearing design provides smooth, frictionless operation. They are available in 11 different sizes ranging from 10 mm D/15 mm L to 42 mm D/30 mm L. Allowable torque ranges from 1.76 Nm to 121 Nm.
