RADFORD, VA – Kollmorgen introduces the Kollmorgen Automation Suite™ – a complete high performance machine automation solution comprised of highly intuitive software, best-in-class and unparalleled-in-breadth motion components, and comprehensive engineering services with experienced Kollmorgen engineers. As a result, the Kollmorgen Automation Suite enables Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to quickly move from concept to a completed machine in less time, with fewer in-house engineering resources, than ever before. By simulating the machine’s operation in advance of connecting all components, Kollmorgen Automation Suite offers a truly differentiated solution that simplifies and shortens the machine design cycle, while improving machine performance.
Kollmorgen Automation Suite begins with collaboration between an experienced Kollmorgen expert and the machine builder to generate a roadmap for the machine. This includes a discovery process that establishes OEM needs and objectives, and is used by Kollmorgen to create an electronic sketch of the machine using Kollmorgen System Designer – an innovative drag-and-drop application design palette. Next, the team identifies key product attributes and performance characteristics used to specify the ideal products for the machine, which are then reviewed en route to creating a Bill of Materials. Along with the Bill of Materials, Kollmorgen provides the machine builder with a text description of the application and a graphical layout of the system.
Design engineers use Kollmorgen Automation Suite to quickly and easily program and refine most automated functions, including line shafting, gearing and camming. The Suite is also used to fluidly incorporate the specified Kollmorgen components, including software, controls, HMI, I/O, drives, motors and mechanicals. Within the company’s current installation base, Kollmorgen Automation Suite has proven to dramatically improve throughput – typically by 25% or more.
Kollmorgen Automation Suite represents a major breakthrough for programming multi-axis synchronized motion by replacing extremely complex coding with drag-and-drop functionality. Using Kollmorgen’s innovative Pipe Network™ programming solution, machine builders can program the motion and create settings by simply describing functions and the relationships between components using pretested graphical description blocks. Additionally, utilizing flexible IEC 61131-3, Kollmorgen Automation Suite allows users to jump right in and work out every detail in a harmonious, single environment. Design engineers can also utilize PLCopen for motion control, which layers standardized libraries of functions onto IEC 61131-3. One of the most significant benefits of Kollmorgen Automation Suite is that it enables machine builders to work within a single programming environment.
In addition to all of this, Kollmorgen experts are available to provide start-up and troubleshooting assistance, development and onsite deployment, and training. Kollmorgen engineers can be onsite at the OEM facility, or in the field at a location where a machine is deployed, to provide programming or hardware support during machine startup. Kollmorgen also provides considerable assistance in the development of the machine automation program and peripheral program development; and during installation and commissioning, they are available to make an onsite visit to provide system deployment support. Finally, Kollmorgen can provide various levels of user training, either at Kollmorgen’s training facility or at the machine builder’s facility. Kollmorgen can also develop customized training programs upon request.
