Lantronix Evolution OS Software for MatchPort AR

By Design World Staff | April 17, 2008

IRVINE, Calif., and GRANITE BAY, Calif., – Lantronix, Inc. (Nasdaq: LTRX), and CodeSourcery, Inc. today announced the availability of the Lantronix Evolution OS® Development Kit for MatchPort®AR, which includes CodeSourcery’s Sourcery G++™, a complete C/C++ development environment based on the GNU Toolchain. This new development kit offers developers a more flexible and economical way to develop and debug applications using a sophisticated, powerful, and familiar graphical user interface while decreasing time to market. MatchPort AR is a highly programmable applications and networking module that enables engineers to quickly and cost-effectively add secure Ethernet networking and web server capabilities to virtually any electronic device for remote command and control via the Internet. To assist them as they create new applications for MatchPort AR, Lantronix also announced a new online Support Forum for embedded engineers. Moderated by Lantronix engineers, the forum will serve as an online community and knowledge base for Evolution OS applications.

The Evolution OS Software Development Kit (SDK) allows MatchPort AR to be used as a powerful 32-bit computing platform with extensive networking support. It provides designers all the needed tools and APIs (application programming interface) to quickly and easily develop custom applications. Along with access to Evolution’s rich developer’s API, Sourcery G++ includes an Eclipse™-based IDE (integrated developer environment), GNU C and C++ compilers, and a source- and assembly-level GNU debugger running natively on Windows®. Customers gain the benefit of Lantronix technology heritage and more than four years of development work along with CodeSourcery’s reputation for high-quality software.

“Our customers require a versatile development platform for the MatchPort AR that allows them to build new applications faster and easier, delivering a high return on investment,” said Daryl R. Miller, VP of engineering for Lantronix. “By joining forces with CodeSourcery in this development effort, we are able to offer our customers the ability to create quality, custom networking applications using familiar tools and build on our feature-rich device networking platforms. These advantages translate into a quicker time-to-market for our customers as they realize the maximum potential of the MatchPort AR.”

“Sourcery G++ offers embedded developers a reliable, easy-to-use GNU Toolchain with BDM debugging support,” said Mark Mitchell, founder and Chief Sourcerer of CodeSourcery. “We’re proud to have been selected by Lantronix, a leading provider of embedded networking solutions, to be part of this new development kit. Sourcery G++ will help designers harness the power of Lantronix’s MatchPort AR technology.”

Developers can get started quickly by simply running the Windows installation program. The Evolution OS SDK for MatchPort AR includes four components: the MatchPort AR with BDM (background debug module) connector, the COLDfire® USB Multilink BDM interface module, a MatchPort AR demo board and CodeSourcery’s Sourcery G++ (Professional and Personal Editions available). Sourcery G++ Professional Edition includes unlimited technical support from CodeSourcery. Developers can also take advantage of the Lantronix Support Forum. This bulletin-board environment offers designers a centralized location to talk, ask questions, and share information on applications developed for the MatchPort AR. Lantronix engineers will monitor and also contribute to the site.

MatchPort AR is a turnkey, application-ready programmable device server module that delivers highly-secure Ethernet connectivity and advanced web server capabilities. The module runs on a 32-bit processor with Evolution OS providing the highest levels of performance available in an embedded networking solution. The MatchPort family (MatchPort b/g, MatchPort AR and MatchPort b/g Pro) are pin/form-factor compatible modules that allow OEMs to embed wired Ethernet or WiFi networking into their products using a single PCB design.

The Evolution OS SDK for MatchPort AR, which includes a thirty-day trial evaluation version of CodeSourcery’s Sourcery G++, is now available through Lantronix partners or can be downloaded on the Support Forum: http://forums.lantronix.com.
