Cost-Efficient Programmable Incremental Encoders from POSITAL
POSITAL’s incremental rotary encoders for motion control and industrial automation are
programmable: performance characteristics such as resolution (number of pulses per
turn) and incremental pulse direction (A before B or B before A) can be modified by simply
changing firmware parameters. Similarly, output drivers can be set to either Push-Pull
(HTL) or RS422 (TTL).
While these devices can be set up at the factory to meet customers’ requirements, they
can also be easily modified in the field using POSITAL’s convenient UBIFAST configuration
tool. This benefits distributors, system integrators and machine builders since it can
significantly reduce the number of distinct items they need to keep in stock. Now they can
hold a smaller number of ‘standard’ models and configure them for specific applications
on an as-needed basis.
The new incremental encoders are based on magnetic measurement technology and
are compact, rugged and highly resistant to shock and vibration loadings. Resolution
can be set anywhere from 1 to 16,384 pulses per turn. They are also available with high
performance seals that make them suitable for use in the most extreme environments. The
newly-introduced housing with an angled cable entry is a winner in tight spaces.
Like other POSITAL sensors, the new incremental encoders are available in a very large
number of mechanical configurations. Buyers can choose from an industry-leading
range of features and options using POSITAL’s online Product Finder tool, then have the
appropriate products built to order and shipped within days. Thanks to these product’s
modular design and POSITAL’s efficient manufacturing system, costs are very competitive.
