Littelfuse Speed2Design and Design World are giving away one Google Glass every month for the next five months.
Why? To remind design engineers that, as electronics get smaller, the need for circuit protection gets bigger.
How? With a neat little quiz. Just take the quiz below to enter for your chance to win. It only takes a few minutes, and along with scoring on the quiz, you could score your own Google Glass.
Ready… Set… GO!
Choosing the right fuse for your application can be a daunting task. Why? Because it takes time and effort to sort through data sheets from the manufacturer, trying to figure out if it fits your application’s requirements. Identifying the most important factors in advance will make the fuse selection process quick and easy.
In the past few months, we’ve considered these important factors:
- Normal operating current
- Application voltage (AC or DC)
- Ambient temperature
- Overload current condition
- Maximum fault current
- Pulses (surge currents, inrush currents, start-up currents, and circuit transients)
- Physical size limitations
- Agency approvals required
- Fuse features
- Factor #10: Fuseholder features and rerating – Examine the manufacturer’s data sheet for details on PC board mounting, clips, R.F.I. shielding, mounting blocks, panel mounting, etc.
- Factor #11: Application testing and verification prior to production – Request samples for testing in the actual circuit to verify your selection. Before evaluating the samples, confirm that the fuse is properly mounted with good electrical connections, using sufficiently sized wires or traces. To ensure that the fuse will operate properly in the circuit, testing should include overload tests under fault conditions and life tests under normal conditions.
Before you take this month’s quiz, consider these two critical factors:
