Liquid Silicone Rubber Static Face Seal Gaskets Are Ideal For Plumbing Application

By Design World Staff | June 30, 2011

Long-term seal life is the major requirement in today’s heavily used faucets, water softeners and toilets. Static face seals custom molded of liquid silicone rubber (LSR) by Minnesota Rubber and Plastics provide superior strength and improve design function in most plumbing related products.

These LSR sealing devices are available for both radial and axial applications where temperature variation and resistance to aging are important design considerations. The typical liquid silicone rubber properties for grades ASTM DZZ40 durometer is shore A of 20 – 80 with a tensile strength for ASTM D412 of 1150 – 1750 psi. These grades have high heat resistance to + 180°C and good flexibility to – 45°C. They have excellent electrical insulating characteristics  and resist UV radiation and weathering.

Liquid Silicone Rubber Static Face Seal Gaskets

Most important is durability for uninterrupted plumbing operation over extended periods, particularly where chlorinated water degrades traditional elastomer seals, causing premature seal failure. Minnesota Rubber and Plastics’ LSR static face seals provide high resistance to chloramine contained in the drinking water of most municipalities.

Additional design advantages to these LSR static face seals include: ability to handle high pressure limits with thinner cross sections; very clean molding process with no material pre-processing needed; minimal flash with very little gate or flash material waste; short repeatable cycle times and reduced secondary operations.

Compared to other materials and processes, Minnesota Rubber and Plastics LSR static face seals are a more cost-effective sealing solution.
