LORD Corporation MicroStrain® Sensing Systems has released its redesigned V-Link® -LXRS® wireless analog sensor node featuring programmable gain and event-driven triggering.
Originally developed to eliminate wires for streamlined, more embeddable health monitoring, the updated sensor is designed to improve the resolution and optimize event monitoring capabilities. Capable of providing wireless test, measurement and long-term monitoring of equipment, the V-Link® system’s seven wireless channels enable rapid, scalable and non-intrusive application of strain and load sensors on rotating components. The system conditions and communicates data wirelessly for remote monitoring and analysis. It is used in a range of condition monitoring applications including wind turbine structural fatigue, bridge load health, and quality control testing.
The V-Link’s versatile design supports a broad range of differential and single-ended analog sensors, said Mike Robinson, Manager Sensing Systems Sales, LORD MicroStrain. Our new V-Link builds on that versatility with an extended suite of remote sensing features that enable smarter, more automated monitoring.
In addition to wind turbine functionality, V-Link users can apply system features for bridge monitoring with event driven triggers. Working to provide efficient data, the system only transmits data when a user-defined threshold is crossed. The memory buffer on the V-Link allows user to capture pre-event data, which enables optimized battery usage for long-term applications as well as minimizes data burden.
The V-Link wireless node accepts up to seven analog sensors, digitizes output with 16 bit resolution, and transmits time-synchronized condition data to a remote wireless gateway. New event-driven triggers allow V-Link users to optimize battery life while capturing vital pre- and post- event strain, torque, load, temperature, pressure, or other analog measurements.
V-Link operates on LORD MicroStrain’s LXRS® wireless communication network. LXRS features 100 percent wireless data throughput with 32-microsecond time synchronization between distributed devices. As a result, users can access the simplicity and scalability of a wireless network with the performance reliability of a hardwired system.
Combined with SensorCloud™, LORD MicroStrain’s cloud-based sensor data platform, V-Link users can cost-effectively access unlimited analog sensor data. This enables users the ability to quickly analyze trends, create alerts, as well as automate reports that notify key personnel when thresholds are exceeded.
For instance, according to Robinson, event-driven triggering allows users to optimize energy consumption for deeper-embedded, longer-lasting monitoring systems.
Combined with SensorCloud web reporting and analytics, we provide our customers with a full condition monitoring system solution that delivers actionable information to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective evaluation and operation of critical equipment and processes, said Robinson.
