Many heavy-duty industrial versions of break-away couplings exist, but not many options are available for low pressure applications in plastic materials. To fill this gap, Colder Products Company recently introduced its BreakAway coupling. It is a high-quality, leak-free connector that lets you break the connection rapidly and automatically when necessary. You do not need to depress a latching mechanism for release.
The company saw a need for the product because of an increased use of personal cooling systems across a variety of markets. In some applications, such as automotive racing, it is mandatory. In others, it is an added convenience, such as for soldiers who may need to move quickly in-the-field and cannot be tethered to a cooling device.
Colder‚’s BreakAway couplings are available in acetal with Buna-N o-rings, 316 stainless steel valve springs, and with automatic shutoff capabilities. Available in in-line and panel mount styles with ‚¼ and 3/8 in. hose barb terminations, the coupling‚’s maximum pressure rating is 20 psi and the temperature range is 0 to 150‚° F.
