Another material has been qualified for the development of light-weight parts for aircraft. The Ixef BM-1524 polyarylamide (PARA) meets the Boeing BMS 8-270 standard governing polyamides for aircraft interiors. It is an alternative to conventional plastics such as polyetherimide (PEI).
Ixef BM-1524 PARA is a 50% glass-fiber reinforced, semi-crystalline, semi-aromatic polyamide with good surface finish. This natural-colored, halogen-free flame retardant (HFFR) polymer delivers metal-like strength and stiffness, making it an attractive option for lightweight fasteners, attachments and brackets.
It meets Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) 60-second vertical burn requirements per 14 CFR 25.853 Appendix F, as well as toxic gas emission requirements under BSS7239 and ABD0031.
