TE Connectivity (TE) extends its innovative line of poke-in connectors to include the new micro poke-in wire SSL connector — a low-profile printed circuit board connector specifically designed for LED channel lettering lighting strips, general illumination LED fixtures, architectural cove and valence lighting, digital signage, LED modules and more. This new product offers a simple poke-in termination method and is packaged to speed up SMT manufacturing processes.
With small dimensions (8.2mm x 3.3mm x 2.475mm) that are about less than one-third the height/length of TE’s standard SMT poke-in products, this new connector suits applications with space constraints, offering easy integration into customer assemblies.
To achieve wire termination, customers can simply strip a wire and poke it into the connector – reducing the laborious task of hand soldering leads to lighting boards. A viewing window is included to verify that a wire is fully seated after termination and the connector’s corners are rounded to minimize shadowing. Additionally, the product’s flat, low-profile design and tape-and-reel packaging enables fast SMT vacuum pick-and-place manufacturing – providing users with significant operational savings.
The RoHS-compliant product has been qualified through salt spray tests for durability and tested to a product lifetime of 40,000 hours. Housing is designed with high-temperature resistant thermoplastic to enable reflow processing.
The product offering is UL- and cUL-approved, and meets Japanese market industry standards. It is currently available in a one-position style that accepts 24 and 26 AWG solid wire only, has a wire retention force of 6N and a creepage distance is 1.5mm.
