MILCOM, the international conference for the latest developments in the field of military communications, is set for November 1-3 in Baltimore, Maryland. This year marks its 35th annual show, with military and industrial professionals discussing and showcasing cutting-edge communication research and designs.
As the headline suggests, the theme of MILCOM 2016 is, “Securing Communications at the Speed of Cyber.” Especially in this day and age, the security of cyber communication is pertinent. The virtual world has changed the landscape of our society, but without protecting those online channels, the freedom we hold so dear is ultimately at risk.
To that end, one of this year’s speakers include Lieutenant General Alan R. Lynn, Director of the Defense Information Systems Agency and Commander of the Joint Force Headquarters – Department of Defense Information Networks (DODIN). Highlighting just a few of his many accomplishments, he is in control of defensive cyberspace activities within the Department of Defense and is responsible for training the JFHQ-DODIN civilian and military force. His name joins the list of many prominent individuals speaking at MILCOM 2016.
The 30,000-square-foot exhibit hall will showcase technical presentations, discussions, tutorials, and various information booths. Throughout the entire conference, intriguing panels deliberate the latest innovations and issues regarding military communications. Notable topics include the role of autonomous systems in military operations, software defined networking, equipping our cyber force, and next-generation WiFi for military networks.
Luckily, I’ll be attending the event Wednesday, November 2, so be sure to follow my extensive coverage of #MILCOM2016 on twitter @jrdelaosa and @ecnonline. For those of you making the lovely trip down to Baltimore, I’ll see you there!
