Another example of mobile medical devices was unveiled at the Medica 2010 trade show in Dusseldorf, Germany. Kontron introduced the fanless Kontron Medi Client IIA, a compact Medical Panel PC with a 10.4 in. or 15 in. touch screen. It functions as a human machine interface (HMI) for medial appliances or as an all-in-one workstation equipped with medical device interfaces. The panel consists of a 1.6 GHz Intel® Atom™ processor N270 that improves graphics performance and lowers heat dissipation. Furthermore, with no rotating storage media, the unit operates silently; ideal for surroundings close to patients.
The durable, lightweight plastic housing has IP65 protection on the front and is resistant to disinfectants and can be manufactured in customer-specific corporate designs. The EN60601-1 compliant panel is designed for continuous operation and has an MTBF of more than 40,000 hours. It is also insensitive to shock and vibration, and therefore suitable for mobile medical equipment.
The panel interfaces with 2 x Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000), 2 x USB 2.0 and 1 x RS232 (optional RS422/RS485). For data storage, the panel offers a socket for compact flash media, and as an option, you can add a 2.5 in. hard drive. The easy-to-read and bright (230 cd/m²) touch screen display can even be operated with gloves and stylus pens and is resistant to disinfectants and cleaning agents.
