ST. LOUIS, MO ‚– Emerson Industrial Automation, a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR),
announces the release of the new Morse‚® high-speed conveyor backstop (CB-HS) clutch product line. The Morse CB-HS clutch design packs more torque into a compact envelope, compared to the current Morse conveyor backstop clutch and the competition. This new design allows users to reach previously unattainable line
speeds, in sizes ranging from 7,000 to 722,000 ft-lbs.
Emerson engineers created the design for the new Morse CB-HS clutch line, incorporating a full complement of anti-rollover cams and dual ball-bearing support. This construction creates a smoother-running clutch and lowers the overrunning drag torque and temperature, to help improve energy efficiency. Emerson has fatigue-tested the CB-HS clutch design for 100,000 cycles at full rating ‚– the equivalent of backstopping the clutch at full torque 10 times a day, for more than 25 years.
Two enhanced features of the new Morse CB-HS clutch design include 28 percent larger spacers, for a 64 percent stronger clutch, and an advanced taconite sealing system. The seal design, available standard for most grease and oil clutches, consists of a purgeable grease chamber and a labyrinth path, to help keep
contaminants out and grease in. These features make the CB-HS clutch better suited for critical applications, such as inclined aggregate-conveying and coal-handling.
