Taipei, Taiwan–Moxa has rolled out the new UC-8400 series RISC-based communication embedded computers with built-in PCI-104 bus for flexible expansion.

UC-8400 series models

—UC-8410 (entry-level version)–already launched in March

—UC-8416 (plus 8 Ethernet switch ports)

—UC-8418 (plus 2 CAN ports and up to 12+12 DI/DO)

Expansion that's up to you

The UC-8400 series embedded computers use the Intel XScale IXP435 533 MHz RISC CPU and come with 8 RS-232/422/485 serial ports, 3 Ethernet ports, 4+4 DI/DO channels, a CompactFlash socket, 2 USB 2.0 hosts, and a built-in PCI-104 bus for flexible expansion. The UC-8416 model also provides 8 10/100 Mbps Ethernet switch ports while the UC-8418 features 2 CANbus ports. The built-in 16 MB NOR Flash, 32 MB NAND Flash ROM, and 256 MB DDR2 SDRAM provide enough memory to run your application software directly on the UC-8400 series for data storage. Moreover, the 256 KB SRAM offers improved data retention to avoid data loss. All UC-8400 series computers are FCC Class B certified.

Linux 2.6 pre-installed

The UC-8416 and UC-8418 comes with the Linux 2.6 platform pre-installed to provide an open software operating system for software program development. Software written for a desktop PC can be easily ported to the UC-8416 and UC-8418 platform by using a common compiler, without needing to modify the code. This makes the UC-8416 and UC-8418 an optimal solution for use with industrial applications, but with minimal cost and effort.

Wide temperature feature for harsh environments
In addition to the standard models, the UC-8416 and UC-8418 are also available in -40 to 75°C wide temperature models for harsh industrial environments.
