Nematron Launches New ePC Fan-less Series of Industrial Computers

By Patrick Curran | March 18, 2010

Ann Arbor, MI – Nematron Corporation announces the launch of the new ePC Fan-less Series of Industrial Computers, available without the use of rotating media and fans. These new variations of the ePC-Series industrial computers address the growing demand to provide industrial computers that have the reliability of a proprietary operator interface while still providing the performance and open connectivity available from a computer. With their Ultra-thin, yet powerful design, unparalleled value, and superb quality at a competitive price, they provide a very feasible alternative to proprietary operator interfaces with the advantage of providing sizes up to 19.0”. There are currently four sizes in this series– 15”, 17”, 19”, and a newly released 12.1”. All are available with 5-wire Analog Resistive touchscreens and NEMA sealed panel mount front panels. Their ultra-thin size and very thin panel mounted depth of less than 3.2” (81.3mm) make them ideal for installation in harsh environments, especially Class I Division 2 hazardous locations.

This series utilizes an Intel® ATOM N270, 1.6 GHz processor to provide enough processing power to run the most complex HMI and SCADA applications. In the past, fan-less industrial computers have not provided this level of performance and features. Easily-removable SATA 40GB and 80GB Solid State hard drives are available options, providing enhanced system performance and adequate storage for most factory automation applications, without the usual exorbitantly high costs. In fact the 40GB drive is available for very little additional cost over the price of a traditional rotating hard drive. With these high performance drives and the Intel ATOM N270 processor, these units are ideal for virtually any HMI/SCADA application.

The Fan-less ePC-Series computers include 12.1” (ePC1200) SVGA, 15” (ePC1500) XGA, 17” (ePC1700) SXGA, and a 19” (ePC1900) SXGA LCD versions. All versions are standard with 100-240 VAC input power supplies, have NEMA 4/4x/12 panel mountable front panels, and are less than 3.2” deep when panel mounted. Stainless Steel front panels, and 24 Volt DC input power are available options for the entire series. I/O ports included on every unit include the following: two 10/100/1000 Ethernet, one RS-422/485, two RS-232, four USB 2.0, PS/2, and even an external Video connection that supports dual display with extended desktop.
