CC-Link IE Field Network specifications include safety functions. With one gigabit-per-second communication speed, it is fast with sufficient communications capacity to be the backbone for automation control, safety, data communications, monitoring, and diagnostics. It meets international safety standards for SIL3 compliance of IEC61508:2010 for electrical, electronic, and programmable electronic safety-related systems and follows IEC61784-3:2010 for functional safety fieldbuses.
It can deliver safety shutdown of processes in response to an emergency signal from light curtains, safety gates, E-stops, and so on. Network diagnostics are precise, so when a cable disconnects or a faulty station is detected, the location of the fault is identified and isolated. Line trouble and module errors can be identified from any location with access to the network, such as an office or anywhere on the production floor.
The network uses commercially available Ethernet Cat5E cable and RJ45 connectors.
It delivers deterministic control communications without requiring the addition of Ethernet switches. Determinism is guaranteed by the CC-Link IE token-passing technique.
Available topologies include star, line, mixed star and line, and ring. Within a single network there can be a total of 121 stations with up to 328 ft (100 m) of Cat5E cable between each station. You can have more than 3000 Ethernet TCP/IP devices on the network. And, as many as 239 networks can be interconnected.
