New ACS55 Component Drive Introduction from ABB

(New Berlin, WI) – With the introduction of the new model ACS55 variable frequency drive, ABB offers OEMs and System Integrators the most compact and slimmest motor drive in ABB’s extensive component drive range. The small-horsepower model is being launched with a rating from 0.25 to 3 HP.

Among early users, the ACS55 is being hailed as the easiest drive to install — and the best-value drive in its class, Mikolajczak noted. The simple installation is attributed to a host of features, including a descriptive interface, compact and slim design, a removable mounting clip, and a new, optional feature called the DriveConfig kit. The descriptive interface allows basic parameters to be set up using DIP switches and potentiometers — without the optional DriveConfig Kit. This provides for a faster set-up and easier configuration. The removable mounting clip allows DIN-rail and wall mounting from the rear and side of the unit. Three widths are available — 1.77 in., 2.66 in. and 2.77 in. — depending on the power rating.

The optional DriveConfig kit is a new tool for volume manufacturing, offering fast and safe configuration of drives — NO power to the drives required! It is a PC tool that enables parameter setting and software updating without the need for a power connection. The drives can remain in their delivery boxes during configuration. It features on-line drive control and monitoring of up to four signals simultaneously. This kit is available Qtr 1, 2008.

This latest ABB ACS55 component drive is a drop-in replacement for the ACS50.
