Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas, a business region of Avnet (NYSE: AVT), and MathWorks, the leading developer of mathematical computing software, has announced the availability of a new development kit that combines a MathWorks software package with the Xilinx Kintex-7 FPGA DSP Development Kit with High-Speed Analog. The new development kit features a robust software package which includes MATLAB, Simulink, HDL Coder, and several other MathWorks products, enabling engineers to use Model-Based Design to design, test, and implement algorithms on Xilinx FPGAs. This approach helps save time and eliminates design errors over traditional workflows that often involve hand-coding HDL. “Avnet, MathWorks and Xilinx have a longstanding history of collaboration, and the hardware and software solution being announced today is the next step in offering a more robust, comprehensive hardware and software platform to FPGA and DSP design engineers in North America,” said Luc Langlois, technology director, Avnet Electronics Marketing. “The use of MathWorks products with Avnet’s FPGA development kits significantly shortens development time for FPGA designers, making it easier to bring their products to market faster.”
The MathWorks software package is available for purchase with the Xilinx Kintex-7 FPGA DSP Development Kit with High-Speed Analog, a domain-specific, targeted design platform that accelerates FPGA development for experienced users and simplifies FPGA adoption for new users. The package includes MATLAB, Simulink, HDL Coder, MATLAB Coder, Fixed-Point Toolbox, Simulink Fixed-Point, DSP System Toolbox, and Signal Processing Toolbox. These tools integrate with Xilinx ISE Design Suite, and reference designs are provided to help users to get started designing signal processing algorithms on Xilinx FPGAs.
“With so many different, incompatible tools needed to develop and test today’s complex systems, engineers often waste time trying to assemble and integrate the right set of hardware and software tools for their tasks,” said Amnon Gai, corporate development and partner programs manager, MathWorks. “A turnkey solution that enables users to build and test models in Simulink and automatically generate HDL code for Kintex-7 FPGAs will let engineers focus more on their algorithms and system design instead of set-up tasks.”
FPGA and DSP design engineers can now purchase the integrated hardware and software package from Avnet starting at $13,995.
“Xilinx and MathWorks have worked together for many years to simplify the software development flow for DSP designers using FPGAs,” said Tom Hill, senior DSP marketing manager at Xilinx. “The addition of the MathWorks software package to the Kintex-7 FPGA DSP kit further supports our collective goal to simplify and accelerate the DSP design for customers targeting FPGAs.”
