New pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes ideal for the appliance industry

By Michelle Froese | March 4, 2024

The new tapes feature durability and damping properties that address engineering challenges, ideally for commercial and residential appliances.

Avery Dennison Performance Tapes has introduced a new portfolio of pressure-sensitive-adhesive (PSA) tape solutions for the appliance industry. The portfolio features a range of tapes engineered to further ease of use and assembly, enhance product durability and improve noise/vibration/harshness (NVH) damping qualities for commercial and residential appliances.

With the addition of these products, users now have access to nearly forty products designed for use in various applications, including refrigerators, freezers, ovens, stovetops, dishwashers, dryers, and washers.

“This portfolio addresses some of the toughest challenges in the appliance industry and reflects our commitment to designing products that give our customers solutions to the design and performance issues they may be encountering,” said Danielle Wiltrout, product manager, General Industrial, Avery Dennison Performance Tapes North America.

Whether it’s mounting small parts, brand emblems, decorative items, and plastic trims for exterior applications or bonding gaskets and other interior components, including mounting evaporators and coils, adhering felt and foam materials used for noise and vibration, as well as materials used for heat dissipation, PSA tapes in the appliance industry have myriad applications.

The new appliance portfolio of tapes offers manufacturers a multitude of benefits including:

Assembly

  • Excellent quick stick, shear, and foam bonding qualities that include various types of constructions available for lamination, including: felt, flock, foam, high loft PET and many batting materials.
  • Functions as a lightweight alternative for screws, nuts and bolts.
  • Easy-release liners with the tape products can further facilitate assembly and also include constructions with a finger-lift edge.

Durability

  • Designed for high durability providing temperature, moisture, and chemical robustness.
  • Can be engineered for multi-substrate bonding, including high and low-surface energy (HSE/LSE) substrates.

NVH damping

  • Constructed with materials designed to absorb.noise/vibration/harshness (NVH).
  • A solution that’s already used in multiple industries including automotive, aerospace, and transportation.

Avery Dennison PSA tape products for appliance manufacturing are part of an expansive portfolio of adhesive solutions that can be used in various industries including automotive, transportation, electronics, building and construction, general industrial, and personal care applications. Customers also have access to testing facilities and subject-matter experts who are available to develop customized solutions for specific application needs.
