New videos help you start programming with groov RIO and Node-RED

Opto 22’s Node-RED expert Terry Orchard shares a new series of videos for developers to help get the most out of your groov RIO.

Our Node-RED videos continue to be one of the most watched series on our website and YouTube channel. Included in both groov EPIC and groov RIO, Node-RED is an open-source software program used to wire together devices, databases, cloud applications, and APIs (application program interfaces) with simple logic flows. It’s growing in popularity, and engineers, programmers, and developers are hungry to learn more.

So, video host and Opto 22 developer Terry Orchard returned to the studio—one he built in his home during this period of COVID—grabbed his out-of-the-box groov RIO, and started developing more of his helpful Node-RED programming tips to share. Here’s a quick overview of what the latest three videos cover:

Setting up groov I/O nodes in Node-RED

Get the most out of your groov RIO by installing and configuring groov I/O nodes with Node-RED. Step-by-step instructions show you how to drag and drop nodes onto the flow workspace of the Node-RED editor. You’ll see the extra security features included with RIO and how you can also communicate with other I/O devices. Watch now.

Sending emails with Node-RED using groov RIO

Now that you’ve installed the groov I/O nodes, it’s time to make use of that data. Terry shows you how to install and configure email nodes, next. You’ll set up an application password and an easy flow for sending out an email whenever a state changes. Watch and learn.

Three ways to toggle a digital output based on analog threshold

Then, see how to bring in an analog channel value and use that to write a digital state change. You’ll see how Node-RED provides different options for basic decision making in a flow. The video shows how to use the following nodes: Switch, Function, Change, and Report by Exception. Watch now.

You can review the complete Node-RED series in our website video library.
