As serial-bus standards have become faster and more complex, debugging has emerged as a major engineering-productivity issue.

New firmware and software for several families of Tektronix digital and mixed-signal oscilloscopes reduces both serial-bus-test complexity and debugging time-even for personnel who have limited familiarity with serial buses. Standards that the new products address include PCI Express (Peripheral-Component Interconnect Express), CAN (Controller-Area Network)/LIN (Local-Interconnect Network), MIL-STD-1553B, and MOST (Media Oriented System Transport).
As signal complexity rises–for example, as multi-lane serial buses become commonplace, capturing unique events with an oscilloscope requires increasingly flexible trigger systems. Tektronix Visual Trigger lets you use a mouse or touchscreen to create highly customizable shapes that closely match the waveform of interest. A new MATE (Mark-All-Trigger-Events) feature enables search and capture of all of an acquisition’s potentially interesting complex behaviors. For greater analysis depth, a custom interface to Matlab data-analysis software provides advanced plotting and filter capabilities. You can install and run Matlab on the Tektronix scopes, thereby eliminating the need to transmit raw data to a separate computer for analysis.
This latest software better equips users to identify crosstalk in their designs without having to resort to bit-error-rate testing.
