OSRAM to demonstrate LED solutions at 2008 Strategies in Light

Santa Clara, CA — OSRAM Opto Semiconductors will showcase a host of new LED illumination solutions at the 2008 Strategies In Light conference and exhibition. On display will be numerous working demos of OSRAM’s new Diamond DRAGON® LED and the Advanced Power TOPLED® technologies with market-ready reference design drive circuitry from Linear Technology, National Semiconductor Corp., and mSilica Inc.

OSRAM’s newly launched Diamond DRAGON® is one of the world’s brightest single-chip SMT LEDs (up to 250 lumens) with low thermal resistance for general, automotive and industrial lighting applications. The Diamond DRAGON® can be driven at 2 amp continuous or 4 amp pulsed, which requires a new class of LED drivers.

Working demos include the Diamond DRAGON® powered by Linear Technologies’ LT3518, a full-featured LED driver with a 2.3A current, 45V internal switch that provides a 3000:1 True Color PWM dimming ratio, open LED protection, and a wide input voltage range, providing stable operation and suitable for automotive and general lighting applications.

National Semiconductor’s PowerWise® LM3401 PFET controller driver powers a second Diamond DRAGON® LED reference design. The LM3401 runs at up to 100 percent of duty cycle, which maximizes the number of LEDs being driven off an input rail. National’s driver requires no output capacitor or compensation, which reduces part count and solution cost.

Also in operation will be a new 2-dimensional backlight demo designed with 160 RGB Advanced Power TOPLEDs® driven by mSilica’s MSL3082 8-channel LED Driver on a companion LED load board. The mSilica driver incorporates Adaptive SourcePower™ technology to control DC-DC power supplies with optimal efficiency, complementing the Advanced Power TOPLED’s® outstanding performance capabilities for general lighting, LCD TV and monitor backlighting.

Other New OSRAM Illumination Solutions at Strategies in Light 2008:
OSRAM’s booth will also include a kiosk demonstrating OSRAM’s award-winning OSTAR®-Lighting LE UW E3B LED in various market available light sources such as an MR30 floodlight and an MR 16 Mini Spot.

A new LED backlight demo will feature OSRAM’s CERAMOS™ SMD ceramic package with silicon resin, our thinnest package, delivering excellent thermal characteristics and long life.

On the automotive side, demos will include the Cadillac CTS headlamp featuring OSRAM’s Platinum DRAGON® High Power Light Source as well as the Audi A8 with daytime running lights powered by OSRAM’s Advanced Power TOPLEDs®.
