On the International Space Station, NASA astronaut Joe Acaba and his fellow crew members have planted three different kinds of lettuce for an experimental harvest. They’re using Veggie, a microgravity plant-growing station that has previously been used to grow lettuce and flowers. This is the first time that three different kinds of lettuce seeds have been placed inside the Veggie unit at the same time. The mission is intended to test the viability of ‘home-grown’ space station food for long-duration flights.
