PHYTEC (www.phytec.com) has unveiled the phyCORE-AM335x System on Module (SOM), which is a feature-packed SOM that supports Texas Instruments’ (www.ti.com) Sitara AM335x ARM Cortex-A8 processor as well as PowerVR SGX530 for 3D and 2D graphics acceleration.

Carrying the AM335x interfaces such as USB 2.0, LCD, Dual Gigabit Ethernet and CAN, the 220-pin SOM interconnect also delivers a maximum performance of 720 MHz and ultra-low power mode support. Its integrated Industrial Communications Subsystem (ICSS) supports various standards such as Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, PROFIBUS, PROFINET, SERCOS-III, POWERLINK and CANopen. The subsystem also enable users to significantly save on bill of material (BOM) costs as it eliminates the need for additional ASIC/FPGA.
The SOM will be offered in a PHYTEC Rapid Development Kit (RDK), which includes the carrier board, SOM, demo images, board support package (BSP) and all contents needed for immediate start-up. With the carrier board serving as the reference design for hardware development, the RDK offers an immediate platform for developing application code that can be integrated together with the SOM into pre-production, prototype and production systems.
