Piab has unveiled a new material for the piGRIP® suction cup series, as well as its other Universal models and smaller Bellows.
The material called Hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber (HNBR) is known for its excellent mechanical properties, meaning it has superior durability and is very resistant against tear and abrasions. This new material ensures that the suction cups have a longer life compared to conventional ones.
More importantly, this breakthrough suction cup material is excellent for injection molding and can speed up the process, as they can pick up a mold part without having to wait for it to cool down.
Aside from that, suction cups made out of HNBR can deliver shorter cycle times. Less energy is also needed in the cooling process, since these suction cups allow robots to quickly pick parts from a mold, leading to higher productivity.
These suction cups are also suited to handling porcelain, pottery, floor tiles, wall and windshields. It also includes casting and molding operations that require a high degree of automation.
Moreover, the suction cups are Silicone-free (PWIS free): this means they can handle parts before the painting process, as they leave no marks behind. In addition, these suction cups are also excellent for sensitive surfaces like glass.
The piGRIP® sunction cups made out of HNBR comes in four sizes ranging from 29mm to 79mm; while for Universal models and smaller Bellows, sizes range between 10mm and 20mm.
