Pivot Point, a manufacturer of non-threaded fastener solutions, recently released the SLIC Pin. SLIC is an acronym for Self-Locking Implanted Cotter Pin. As the name implies, this fastener is a pin and cotter all in one.

The SLIC Pin features a spring-loaded, wedge-shaped plunger that functions as a self-contained cotter pin. Review the application guide here.
The one-piece locking clevis pin functions as a quick-locking pin and is cost-saving, fast, and secure, making it ideal for several applications. The patented design is ideal for limited-space applications where cotter pin or retaining clip access is limited.
Quick-Release SLIC Pins feature a strong, spring-loaded plunger that provides an easy insertion ramp. The plunger retracts when inserted, then springs back up when through the joined material. The vertical face at the rear of the plunger prevents backing out and locks the pin into place.
SLIC one-piece locking clevis pins eliminate the need for cotters, bolts, nuts, and clips. They also require no tools for installation or use, thereby offering quick assembly times. These locking pins are ideally suited for automated assembly. They’re typically easier, safer, and faster than using standard clevis pins, cotter pins, or clips.
Other fasteners, such as retaining clips, can be installed incorrectly. The SLIC Pin is fast and foolproof.
