Earlier this year, I had a chance to sit down with Canfield Connector’s Pat Byce and take a look at several of the company’s newest products. In this video, Pat and I discuss Canfield’s GatorMate GT Series molded receptacle and plug mobile and industrial connectors, which were just introduced by the company last month. These are similar to basic Deutsch-style designs but enhance the wired section of the connectors by accommodating a molded-jacketed cable with added features of indicator lights.
These rugged connectors feature an IP67 rating and are shock, vibration, moisture and dust resistant. This robust design holds transient voltage/current within the connector.
A special light feature on this assembly allows the user to see that power is applied. As for the assembly itself, the GT series is available with many wire styles and lengths and is available in either the receptacle or plug style versions. Cables available are the well-known Canfield Connector flooded jacketed cable. Custom versions of the GT series connector can come with special wires including high flex, media compatible wire, special use wire, or high-temperature wire on request.
The easy-to-use design is simpler to install than typical Deutsch connectors. With the GatorMate, the user does not have to assemble the product, much like field wire-able DIN connectors. With typical Deutsch connectors, the user actually has to apply crimps to their wires, install into the housing, and then apply the wedgelock. With the GatorMate, the end user is provided with a cable and they only need to terminate the end and they are ready to go.
Currently, the GatorMate is available in 2-pin, and 3- and 4-pin versions will be released shortly.
