Reell’s POLYTORQ® Torque-Generating Technology Expands Capabilities

By Editor | October 14, 2013

Reell’s newly patented PolyTorq® torque-generating technology introduces unmatched performance and design capabilities to advance a wide range of hinge and torque insert applications. This unprecedented technology adds to Reell’s industry leading and innovative portfolio of torque-generating solutions engineered to optimize small-package motion control applications.

Reells-POLYTORQ-TorqueGenerating-Technology-Expands-Capabilities

PolyTorq technology effectively generates torque for hinges or torque inserts by interfacing an engineered thermoplastic with either a shaft or a tube. The technology can be specified to simplify designs by enabling complete hinges or torque inserts to consist of only two components, provide robust and durable motion control solutions, and/or allow for customized package size, geometry, and torque profile requirements.

Reell hinges and torque inserts benefiting from PolyTorq technology will be chemically inert to enable torque to withstand harsh environments and external contaminants (ideally suiting outdoor applications); variable torque can be achieved as a function of angle with the capability to realize multiple detent positions and complex torque profiles; torque will perform consistently over an especially long life; the typical need for grease is eliminated to promote “clean and green” operation without potential grease-loss failures; and the technology imparts a “viscous damping” function without oil to control speed and prevent components from “slamming” shut or opening under variable load.

PolyTorq technology joins Reell’s patented ReellTorq® clip technology, which was originally developed for hinges and torque inserts to enhance smooth and highly consistent action, extend service life, and promote low differential between static and dynamic torque. Both technologies can be tailored to meet particular application demands.
