A new report ranks Huawei and Vodafone atop the list of cellular providers supporting the Internet of Things.
IHS Markit’s 2017 IoT Platforms Scorecard ranked IoT connectivity management platform vendors based on their overall connections, their support for multiple technologies and their perceptions among end-users.
Analysts said that although the CMP segment was long dominated by Cisco Jasper and Ericsson, the landscape shifted in the past 18 months due to a variety of factors — including massive growth in the IoT market in China.
That pattern helped Chinese telecom giant Huawei top the firm’s list for 2017.
“Huawei’s cumulative cellular IoT connection count exploded in 2016 on the back of its work with Chinese operators,” IHS Markit senior principal analyst Sam Lucero said in a statement.
U.K.-based Vodafone ranked second in the analysis, Lucero added, as it “quietly established a global footprint of operator partners that not only use its platform, but often its global network and global IoT SIM, as well.”
Cisco Jasper and Ericsson followed at third and fourth, respectively, while HPE, Aeris, Comarch, KORE, Stream Technologies and ZTE rounded out the top ten.
