Rexroth Offers Durable, PC-Based HMIs in Small Footprint

By Patrick Curran | May 11, 2009

Hoffman Estates, IL – Rexroth’s IndraControl VSP and VPP series of PC-Based HMIs provides the full power of a PC with extra features to increase reliability, all in a smaller footprint.

The VSP and VPP platforms are the latest additions to Rexroth’s IndraControl V family of PC-based HMIs, which features PC processor technology, advanced operating systems and both keyed and touchscreen interface options. With a ruggedized frame, IP65 protection class rating and components engineered to withstand harsh factory conditions, these industrial PC-based HMIs have a compact design that is nearly 1.5 inches thinner than previous models, making them easier to fit into a machine. For increased system stability, the processor box has an option for an SSD card which eliminates moving parts and improves durability.

The IndraControl VSP HMIs provide an economical solution for operator control in standard industrial environments. Engineered for reliability, they are rated for operational vibration resistance up to 0.25g and shock vibration up to 5g. The IndraControl VPP HMIs are designed to withstand more extreme operating conditions, with features such as a vibration absorbing hard disk mounting and improved resistance. Operational vibration resistance is up to 1g, and resistance to shock vibration up to 5g. The IndraControl VSP/VPP members of Rexroth’s PC-based HMIs feature up to 2GB of RAM, nearly four times as much as the previous generation, and up to 80GB of memory allowing machine builders to take full advantage of the system’s PC power.

Both the VSP and VPP series use Windows XP operating systems, offering machine builders the added advantage of a widely accepted software platform to save time on machine commissioning, training and panel/operator interaction.

The IndraControl VSP/VPP series are ideal for applications involving machine start-ups, gantries, printing and converting, food and packaging, material handling and line transfers. With options for keypads or touchscreens, these HMIs provide intelligent, easy-to-use controls for inputting values, jogging axes, recipe management, connecting to hierarchy databases, trending and supervisory-level HMI functions. In addition, the HMIs can be used as a soft PLC with a Profibus I/O.

The IndraControl VSP/VPP control panels are available in a range of sizes from 12 to 17 inches, with both touchscreen interface and multiple machine key options. A USB port on the panel front offers extra functionality for connecting a memory stick, auxiliary keyboard or mouse. In addition, the panels can be hot-swapped for quicker recovery in an emergency.
