The owner of a Romanian air carrier says the company’s flights have been suspended in Italy after an airliner ended up off the runway while landing at Rome’s main airport during heavy winds, injuring four passengers and a flight attendant.
Carpatair owner Nicolae Petrov said Sunday flights between Rome and Bologna, and Rome and Pisa, had been cancelled pending an investigation into the incident on Saturday evening. Carpatair operates internal flights for Italy’s Alitalia.
The Italian news agency ANSA said the ATR 72 ended up in the grass beside the runway on a flight from the Tuscan city of Pisa. There were 46 passengers and a four-member crew aboard the flight. None of the injuries were considered to be life-threatening.
