Scroll Compressor Soft Starters for the HVAC Market

By Editor | May 29, 2013

Share

Carlo Gavazzi has launched its latest addition to their full line of scroll compressor soft starters:  the 55, 75 and 90Amp RSBT and RSBD Series.  The growing market of heat pumps and global drive toward reduction of CO2 emissions are contributing to steady growth of low-consumption and energy efficient HVAC systems. OEMs understand the need to reduce high starting currents of compressor used in such systems so as to minimize voltage fluctuation and light flickering. The new, higher amperage, RSBT and RSBD Series of 3- and 2- phase controlled scroll compressor soft starters are the extension of the existing RSBT Series to cover most existing scroll compressor ratings available in the market. Equipped with the patented auto-adaptive algorithm, an optimized inrush current reduction with every start, achieved without any user setting is a simpler product to deploy and operate. Without a need for any external sensors, soft starters offer number of built-in diagnosing functions to protect user system against potentially harmful conditions such as wrong phase sequence and locked rotor condition.

Soft-Starters-HVAC

Common applications for scroll compressor soft starters in HVAC market are in chillers, heat pumps and roof tops. Benefits of using RSBT and RSBD Series soft starters include current limiting starting, auto-adaptive starting algorithm, no user settings required, reduction of system vibration and longer compressor lifetime.  Technical specifications include:

  • Current ratings up to 55, 70 and 95A
  • Maximum UL rating of 75Hp
  • Line voltage rating up to 480VAC
  • Universal control 24VAC/DC & 110-400VAC
  • Up to 12 starts per hour
  • CE certified, UL and cUL listed
