SCTE Foundation names board for coming year

By atesmeh | February 12, 2014

Comcast’s Tony Werner, Bright House Networks’ Nomi Bergman, opXL’s Tom Gorman and Time Warner Cable’s Christine Whitaker will serve as officers of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) Foundation for the 2013-’14 term, the SCTE Foundation Board.

Werner, executive vice president and CTO of Comcast Cable Communications, is entering his third year as president of the SCTE Foundation Board.  Under Werner, the Foundation has instituted an Advancing Cable Excellence (ACE) campaign that has raised more than $2 million to be used for programs that increase the quality and diversity of the cable telecommunications engineering workforce.

Joining Werner on the executive committee will be:

  • Vice President: Nomi Bergman, president, Bright House Networks;
  • Secretary: Tom Gorman, president, opXL; and
  • Treasurer: Christine Whitaker, group vice president, Chief Learning Officer, Time Warner Cable.

“Over the past several years, the industry’s widespread support has enabled the SCTE Foundation to establish a firm financial footing,” said Bill Schankel, the SCTE’s vice president, marketing.  “In the months ahead, we will be working with the new officers and the entire board to create and implement programs that will benefit both current and next-generation engineering and operations professionals.”

Established in 2005, the SCTE Foundation is intended to increase the technical, business and leadership skills of the telecommunications engineering workforce, attract and recruit women, minorities and veterans into engineering careers, and position the telecommunications industry as a desirable career opportunity for aspiring young people in the early stages of their careers.

The Advancing Cable Excellence campaign offers four levels of corporate involvement—Platinum ($100,000), Gold ($50,000), Silver ($25,000) and Bronze ($10,000)—as well as a variety of giving opportunities for individuals and SCTE chapters. Funds generated through the campaign will be used to facilitate a variety of educational opportunities, including the creation and availability of online courses and tuition assistance for approved higher-education experiences.

To donate to the ACE campaign, or for more information visit the SCTE Foundation.
