Sensor hubs play an essential role in handling complex algorithms and reducing power consumption in portable electronics that employ sensors to provide increased functionality. The SSC7102 microcontroller from Microchip Technology Inc. was developed using input from multiple industry-leading sensor manufacturers and sensor-fusion specialists. The result is a sensor hub that can run complex sensor-fusion algorithms and consume about 4mA. The low current consumption means longer battery life for Windows® 8.1 tablets, laptops, ultrabooks and smart phones.
The SSC7102 sensor hub is available in a 6mm x 6mm ball grid array (BGA) package and is priced at $2.69 each in 10,000-unit quantities.
