Amplifying the voltage drop across a manganin shunt is a common technique for current sensing. Micro Oscillator, Inc.’s family of sMart shunts provides a simplified alternative. The high-side precision current sense amplifier circuit has a built-in sense resistor. The patent pending product family provides a high-precision voltage or 20 mA current loop output while maintaining 0.2% accuracy over a broad temperature range including -40OC to 125OC. The unit’s accuracy is 100% tested over an extended temperature range and high-side measurements do not require an additional supply. Packaging for the sMart shunts includes single in-line package (SIP), hockey puck and DIN rail mounting options.
