STOBER debuts second generation of “PE” helical gearing unit

STOBER Drives, Inc. has released the second generation of its PE helical unit family featuring ground helical gearing.

The redesigned PE unit is a first in its class, said Brian Sharp, STOBER product support technician. “When compared with spur gear units, the helical gearing of the PE allows for higher torque, ensures lower noise levels, and provides high smoothness in operation,” he said. “The unit adds to the STOBER reputation for being the gold standard in drive solutions.”

The new PE series illustrates STOBER’s commitment to solution design, said Sharp. It has four case sizes ranging from PE2 to PE5. These sizes are available in single and double stage with ratios ranging from 3:1 up to 100:1. With output torques up to 310Nm, input speeds up to 8000 rpm, a backlash rating as low as 8 arc minutes, low friction, and high shaft load capacity, the PE can handle a variety of applications, including packaging and general automation.

Another advantage of the second generation PE is a lower noise level compared to cross board industry standards. “This is very attractive and interesting to many customers due to increasing concerns about limiting noise emissions as well as taking care of the machine operators,” said Sharp. “Excessive noise levels can cause hearing loss.”

The PE gear unit is available as an in-line gear unit with a motor adapter for third-party motors, large motor shaft input option, or an integrated housing to mount the most popular dimensions.
