Sunstone Circuits®, a printed circuit board (PCB) prototype solutions provider, has announced the addition of a Design for Manufacture (DFM) tool, DFMplus, to their product line. DFMplus will allow potential issues to be fixed in the PCB design phase, to ensure manufacturability by Sunstone Circuits. By using the DFMplus tool, design engineers can verify their PCB design before placing their order, resulting in a much smoother ordering process.
Benefits of the DFMplus tool:
- Customers will be able to avoid potential production problems and delays that can now be addressed during the design stage
- There is a preview of possible failure points which is helpful information for debugging and testing
- Customers will get assistance in finding the right Sunstone service for their board project
- There is an easier, more efficient transfer of design file data into manufacturing, which means fewer jobs go on hold for data issues
- The designer can now submit partial designs, or regions of the design, as a section-by-section check
With DFMplus, the design engineer will get comprehensive DRC results, and will be able to see all of the errors in one pass. Results are returned to the customer in a full report, within a few hours. In addition, DFMplus has allowed Sunstone to remove layer mapping requirements from the ordering process with the PCBpro® Full Feature product, saving even more time for the design engineer.
“Engineers simulate their project schematics before committing them to physical layout. Our DFMplus tool fulfills a similar role prior to committing the physical layout to actual metal-and-fiberglass,” said Sunstone’s Director of Manufacturing, Nancy Viter. “With DFMplus, Sunstone customers can pre-check their design files as early and as often as they like; they receive a complete and comprehensive report of all meaningful DRC and DFM issues in their design file; they can make modifications and fix mistakes BEFORE ordering their first physical board set, giving them greater peace of mind and reducing the number of board spins necessary to complete their prototype phase.”
“The first time I used this service, I was very impressed. Later, I submitted some more complex boards and found the reports to be extremely helpful in identifying design issues. I usually use your PCBExpress service, and DFMplus gives me great confidence about getting accurate designs for my future board projects.”
Jeff Bates, Senior Hardware Engineer, Impinj
By using DFMplus, Sunstone customers can better choose the right service for their needs, saving time and money whenever possible.
“I’ve been designing circuits for over 45 years. You guys are amazing; this DFM service is exactly what I needed!”
Mike Fleming, Electrical Engineer
