For the second year in a row, Sunstone Circuits® has been named one of the Healthiest Employers of Oregon. The awards are given annually to companies that promote the value of workplace wellness and demonstrate innovation and leadership in their wellness programs. Sunstone again placed in the top ten for the “medium sized employers” category – those with 100-499 employees.
The Portland Business Journal linked up with Indianapolis-based Healthiest Employers LLC to produce the Healthiest Employers of Oregon awards, a program designed to reward companies for innovative wellness programs and to give other businesses ideas for implementing their own worksite wellness initiatives. For 2015, The Business Journal honored 62 companies for their efforts to improve employee health. The Healthiest Employers/HR Summit took place on October 23rd, 2014, at the Sentinel Hotel in downtown Portland. About 400 business leaders attended the event, making it the largest such wellness program the Portland Business Journal has yet hosted.
Sunstone Circuits earned this award for the second year in a row, by launching and maintaining a formal wellness program to encourage healthy life styles. By implementing a health incentive, employees who obtain biometric readings, undergo a health risk assessment and participate in the “Wellness BINGO” challenge have the ability to receive a reduction in their health insurance premiums each month. The judges also acknowledged Sunstone’s onsite walking trail, fitness room, employee health initiatives, and company organized participation in local running and walking events. Sunstone has had several employees who were, through the assessment and coaching process, educated on pre-stage medical conditions and have since made lifestyle changes to improve those conditions. Sunstone Circuits’ Shipping Supervisor Doug Miller explains, “When this program first started, I was skeptical this would benefit me. I decided to try and get in shape for my grandkids. I have gone from 206lbs to 151lbs since October 2012. I have changed my diet from fatty foods to more fruits and vegetables. I now work out 5 times a week and on my off days, I walk. Sunstone is committed to helping us get healthy. They have spent time and money investing in their employees. The wellness program has completely changed my life.”
