Littelfuse, Inc. has expanded its K5V Series illuminated tactile switch line with the release of the K5V4 models, available in Gull Wing (GH) and 2.1 mm Pin-in-Paste (PIP) versions. Both versions are compatible with reflow soldering, making them suitable for manufacturers shifting from wave soldering to surface-mount assembly.
The K5V4 switches are constructed with polyarylate (PAR) material rated for thermal deformation up to 250°C, which allows them to withstand the temperatures used in reflow processes without the need for additional sleeves or handling steps. This compatibility supports direct SMT assembly, simplifying production and reducing assembly complexity while maintaining mechanical durability and tactile performance.
The switches feature a single-pole, double-throw (SPDT) configuration with normally open and normally closed contact options. They provide a 4 N operating force, a sharp tactile response with an audible click, and long travel for accurate actuation feedback. Integrated high-brightness LEDs are available in multiple single- and bi-color configurations, enabling clear visual indication in low-light conditions. Gold-plated dome contacts improve long-term electrical performance, and the compact, dust-resistant design makes them suitable for densely populated circuit boards.
The K5V4 models are offered in both surface-mount (GH) and through-hole (PIP) versions, giving engineers flexibility when designing systems with tight space constraints or angled board-to-panel configurations. Their design is well-suited for human–machine interface applications, including system controls in data centers and servers, reset and feedback functions in network infrastructure, control points in industrial equipment, and illuminated switches for pro audio and video systems.
The K5V Tactile Switches are available in tape-and-reel packaging, with order quantities ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 units. Samples can be requested through Littelfuse authorized distributors.
