Make way for the EcoCar

Lucky engineering students at 16 North American universities get to work on creating an eco-friendly version of a Camaro in the EcoCAR competition. Run by the Dept. of Energy, the contest mainly focuses on super-eco-friendly power trains, though students also develop autonomous vehicle systems that are short of actually taking control and driving the car. The students we spoke to said all the power trains are hybrid-electric and that Ohio State University is the odds-on favorite to win the competition, which is in its fourth year.
