Breathless over the airless tire
Last year Goodyear Tire devised an airless tire for a zero-turn radius-mower called the Outlaw XP from Bad Boy Mowers. The thermoplastic connecting structure that actually supports the tread was developed by Catalyst Product Development in Indianapolis. Catalyst had this example of the tire at its booth. Catalyst personnel say Goodyear came up with a way to attach the rubber tread to the connecting structure through a proprietary process. The fastest this particular tire can go is about 25 kph. Booth personnel wouldn’t talk about the cost of the tire because it is basically an R&D project. But the hope is to eventually field it on passenger vehicles.
